What Is White Noise and How Does It Work?

White noise has been used for various reasons for some time now. From helping those who have had traumatic brain injuries, those who have had issues with tinnitus, those who have had problems sleeping to those who have had issues with ADD, and for some people suffering from PTSD. White noise has proven to be extremely effective for people of all ages.

The most noticeable sound that most people hear is white noise. When most people think of white noise they associate it with the noises that you hear in the middle of the night, such as frogs croaking, cicadas screeching and crickets chirping. Most people think of a hissing sound, but it’s not always a hissing sound. White noise simply indicates a collection of all audible frequencies present in a signal. If a sound has a collection of all audible frequencies present, then the term “white noise” is often used to describe it.

One of the primary reasons for using white noise is to help those who have been exposed to ear-shattering noises, such as those who have been exposed to explosions or those who have been exposed to gunshots. The use of white noise can help those that were exposed to such noises by giving them something to focus on and blocking out those noises that they heard at the time of the trauma.

White noise is nice for those who do not like to sleep in a completely silent environment.

What is white noise made up of?

Everything that makes sounds can be classified as white noise. It usually contains a combination of all the sounds that are hard to hear. Research has shown that the use of white noise can help those who need to focus their attention on something less distracting than an environment that is virtually silent. The use of white noise can help to block out other distractions that could be causing the person to be too distracted in order to focus on the task at hand.

White noise is a sound that is specifically designed to mask background noises.

There are many benefits to white noise that include tinnitus treatment and relief, stress relief, to aid concentration, as background sounds, ambient sound, relaxation, meditation, sleep sounds, study, and many find it helps them to fall asleep.
